Mango (R2E2) Grafted 80-100cm

1. Origin & cultivar background

R2E2 was developed in Australia: it was selected in 1982 at the Bowen Research Facility (Queensland) from a seedling progeny of Kent.

Commercial release was circa 1991 and it is now one of the more widely accepted mango cultivars in Australia.

The name “R2E2” refers to the row and position of the original seedling tree at the research site.

2. Tree description & growth habit

The tree is described as medium-to-highly vigorous, developing an upright open canopy.

Branches may be brittle and prone to breakage if overloaded with fruit — good staking/support may be required early on.

Can grow quite large: for example, a six-year-old tree may reach ~6 m or more with canopy spread ~5 m.

Leaves are deep green, oblong-elliptic to lanceolate, with a slightly drooping habit. 8
